How to Set Up Google Business Profile for Your Dumpster Rental Company
A Step-by-Step Guide for Family-Owned Operators
Why This Matters
46% of all Google searches have local intent. When someone searches "dumpster rental near me," Google shows the Map Pack first - those 3 businesses with the map.
If you're not there, you're invisible.
What customers see:
No Google Business Profile = Not in the Map Pack = Losing to competitors
What You'll Need
Before you start, gather:
- β Business name (as registered)
- β Physical address (can be hidden if you serve customers at their location)
- β Phone number (local number preferred)
- β Business email
- β Website (optional but recommended)
- β Photos of your dumpsters, trucks, team (10-15 photos)
- β List of services and prices
- β Service area (cities/zip codes you serve)
Step 1: Check If You Already Have a Listing
Before creating a new profile, check if Google already created one for you.
- Go to google.com/maps
- Search for your business name + city
- Look for your business in the results
If you find it:
- Click on it
- Look for "Own this business?" or "Claim this business"
- Click to claim it (skip to Step 3)
If you don't find it:
- Proceed to Step 2 to create a new listing
Step 2: Create Your Google Business Profile
2.1 Go to Google Business Profile Manager
- Open business.google.com
- Sign in with your Google account (create one if needed)
- Click "Manage now" or "Add your business"
2.2 Enter Your Business Name
Type your exact business name (as customers know it). Don't stuff keywords!
β Good:
"Smith's Roll-Off Services"
β Bad:
"Smith's #1 Cheap Dumpster Rental Birmingham Alabama Best Prices"
2.3 Select Your Business Category
Primary category: Dumpster Rental Service
Additional categories (add all that apply):
- Roll Off Dumpster Service
- Waste Management Service
- Junk Removal Service
- Garbage Collection Service
- Container Service
2.4 Add Your Location
If you have a physical location customers visit:
- Enter your full address
- This will appear on Google Maps
If you only serve customers at their location:
- Select "I deliver goods and services to my customers"
- You can hide your address while still appearing in local searches
2.5 Set Your Service Area
Option A: By city/area names
Add each city you serve
Example: Birmingham, Hoover, Vestavia Hills, Homewood
Option B: By distance
Set a radius from your location
Example: 25 miles from Birmingham
2.6 Add Contact Information
- Phone: Use a local number, not a toll-free number (local ranks better)
- Website: Add your website URL if you have one
Step 3: Verify Your Business
Google needs to confirm you're the real owner. Verification methods:
π± Phone Verification (Fastest - if available)
- Google calls or texts your business number
- Enter the code they give you
- Done in 5 minutes
π¬ Postcard Verification (Most common)
- Google mails a postcard to your business address
- Takes 5-14 days to arrive
- Enter the 5-digit code from the postcard
π₯ Video Verification (Sometimes offered)
- Record a video showing your location and business
- Upload to Google
- Review takes 5-7 business days
Step 4: Complete Your Profile (Critical for Ranking)
After verification, complete every section. Profiles with 100% completion get 7x more clicks.
4.1 Business Description
Write 750 characters describing your business. Include what you do, who you serve, what makes you different, and your service area.
Template:

Family-owned and operated since [Year], we offer [sizes] roll-off dumpsters for [use cases]. We pride ourselves on [differentiator: same-day delivery, competitive pricing, etc.]. Our team handles everything from delivery to pickup. Serving [list of cities]. Call today for a free quote.
4.2 Services
Add each service with description and price:
| Service | Description | Price |
|---|---|---|
| 10 Yard Dumpster | Small cleanouts, 3-4 truck loads | $275 |
| 15 Yard Dumpster | Medium projects, 5-6 truck loads | $325 |
| 20 Yard Dumpster | Renovations, 7-8 truck loads | $375 |
| 30 Yard Dumpster | Large projects, 10-12 truck loads | $450 |
| Same-Day Delivery | Rush delivery service | $50 |
4.3 Photos (Critical!)
Minimum 10 photos. More is better.
| Photo Type | What to Include | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Cover photo | Your best dumpster shot | First thing customers see |
| Logo | Your business logo | Brand recognition |
| Dumpster photos | Each size you offer | Customers want to see what they're renting |
| Truck photos | Your delivery truck | Shows professionalism |
| Team photos | You and your crew | Builds trust |
Step 5: Add Q&A (Seed Your Own Questions)
Google lets anyone ask questions on your profile. Seed it yourself with common questions:
Q: What size dumpster do I need for a kitchen remodel?
A: For a typical kitchen remodel, a 15 or 20-yard dumpster works best. Call us and we can help you choose!
Q: How long can I keep the dumpster?
A: Our standard rental period is 7 days, included in the base price. Extended rentals are just $15/day.
Q: Do you offer same-day delivery?
A: Yes! Call us before noon and we can usually get your dumpster to you the same day.
Step 6: Get Your First Reviews
Reviews are the #1 ranking factor for local search.
Create Your Review Link
- Go to business.google.com
- Select your business
- Click "Get more reviews"
- Copy your short review link
SMS Template
Hi [Name]! Thanks for choosing [Company] for your dumpster rental. If you had a good experience, would you mind leaving us a quick Google review? It really helps our small family business. Here's the link: [your review link] Thanks! - [Your name]
Step 7: Post Regular Updates
Google Posts boost your visibility and engagement. Post at least 1x per week.
Example Offer Post:
π Spring Cleanup Special! $50 off any 20 or 30-yard dumpster rental this month. Perfect for: β Garage cleanouts β Landscaping projects β Home renovations π Call [number] or book online!
Step 8: Track Your Performance
Go to business.google.com β Insights to track:
- Search queries: What people searched to find you
- Views: How many saw your listing (should grow monthly)
- Actions: Calls, website clicks, directions (aim for 5-10% of views)
- Photo views: How often your photos are seen
Common Mistakes to Avoid
β Keyword Stuffing Your Business Name
Google can suspend your listing for this.
β Using a P.O. Box
Google requires a real street address.
β Fake Reviews
Don't buy reviews. Google detects this and will penalize you.
β Never Updating
Dead profiles rank poorly. Post updates, add photos, respond to reviews.
